Bionic Woman is the latest television show offering by NBC coming this fall. If the title seems familiar, it is because this new show is a remake of the 1970s TV series The Bionic Woman, a spin-off of The Six Million Dollar Man. This time around, they dropped the "The" from the title and settled for Bionic Woman. According to producer David Eick, the new Bionic Woman is "A complete reconceptualization of the title. We're using the title as a starting point, and that's all. It's going to be a meaningful departure [from the original]". NBC picked up the Bionic Woman for their 2007 schedule, and last May 14, 2007 the company released their official autumn 2007/2008 schedule: Bionic Woman will be on Wednesdays at 9pm (Eastern Time) starting September 26, 2007.
The series revolves around the life of Jaime Wells Sommers, your typical woman struggling to earn a living as a bartender. She has a boyfriend, Will and looks after her younger sister, Becca. Despite not having everything she wants in her life, Jaime is happy with she has. One day, however, her luck turns for the worse when she was hit by a car and was in mortal danger. Her only hope to live is by being an experimental subject of a top secret program, and Jaime takes that chance. Thus, Bionic Woman is born. As Jaime slowly finds out about her new powers, she struggles on how to live normally.
The main characters for the series Bionic Woman are the following: Michelle Ryan will star as Jaime Sommers, the bartender who is involved in a near fatal car accident and becomes the Bionic Woman. Jonas Bledsoe will be played by Miguel Ferrer who is the evident director of the Bionics program. Molly Price as Ruth Treadwell and Will Yun Lee as Jae Kim are some of the Bionic team members. Becca Sommers will be played by Lucy Hale, and she is Jaime's sister. This character was originally portrayed as hearing-impaired, and resentful of Jaime. When the part was recast, series producers announced that the revised version of the character will no longer hearing-impaired and will be a "budding hacker". The recurring characters are Dr. Will Anthros (Chris Bowers) and Sarah Corvus (Katee Sackhoff). The doctor is Jaime's boyfriend and a Bionic scientist. The latter is the "first Bionic Woman" and an adversary of Jaime.
According to the website for the UK newspaper Daily Mail, the new Bionic Woman will receive a bionic eye, in addition to her bionic ear. She also retains her bionic legs and bionic right arm from the original series. In the official webpage for the Bionic Woman, clips from the pilot episode showed that Jaime Sommers will be injected with nanomachines called "anthrocytes" which can heal her body at a very fast rate. Catch Bionic Woman, the new and exciting, cutting-edge series of NBC every Wednesday at 9pm (Eastern Time) starting September 26, 2007.
